Frequently Asked Questions

We have done our best to accurately answer all your questions. Please understand that international missions is not an exact science. We will update this information if any details change.

What will the schedule consist of?

You will receive a daily schedule during the orientation time at L'Arcada, but during our week as the service crew we will spend our time in the following areas:

Do we need passports and visas?

You must have a passport to travel outside the USA. Apply for one as soon as possible here. Visas are not required to travel within the European Union or Latin America, but a passport is. The application process can take many weeks, so apply soon.

How will we get around?

L'Arcada has vans and drivers who will pick us up and transport us whenever needed.

What is the weather like in the summer?

Days are warm and can be in the upper 80's, and the evenings and mornings are cool and can be in the 60's.

Can we raise support/funds for this mission trip and what does the cost cover?

Yes. Pine Cove is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. So, we can receive contributions designated to your mission trip. It is a great idea to include friends, family and your church in supporting you to go on mission. All contributions to Pine Cove are tax deductible. Transportation, food, lodging and all program related fees are included in your cost. The only money you will use will be for souvenirs during our excursions from camp.

What type of accommodations will we stay in?

The service crew stays in platform tents that comfortably sleep four with a bunk bed and two single beds. Each tent also has a small closet. The bathhouse has a boy's and girl's side and is shared at camp. It has individual showers and plenty of hot water.

Where do we keep our valuables?

All valuables will be collected at the orientation meeting when you arrive at L'Arcada. All money, passports, plane tickets and other valuables will be kept locked in the office safe.

What is the dress code?

Dress is camp casual, so shorts and t-shirts are fine. It is cool in the mornings and evenings so make sure you have a jacket or sweatshirt for these times. We will be able to swim, so pack a modest swimsuit.

Can we do laundry?

There is a washing machine, detergent and clothes lines available at camp should the need arise for you to do laundry while there.

What will my children do?

Camp is a great place for children! Your children will join in on the service when appropriate and enjoy the fun of camp at other times. It is our hope that your children will work along side you as much of the time as they are able. Some of the older children may be assigned to serve the team by leading activities with the younger children.

What is the food like?

Camp food is great. Everything is prepared in the kitchen and is nutritious in order to keep campers and staff healthy and happy. Spanish food is not too different from North American food a lot of variety, but there will be some local twists that will be new for your tastes. We will also have the opportunity to eat out a couple of times to experience the regional culture.

Will I be able to speak to anyone in English?

Most of the full time staff are fluent in English and many of the counselors will be as well. Everyone takes English in school, so many will be happy to practice their English with you, resulting in great conversations!

What kind of power supply does Spain use?

Like most of Europe, Spain uses 220 volt power supply. You will need a converter or adaptor depending on what you are plugging in. The plug style will require an adaptor at least.

What cultural/tourist sites will we see?

A visit to Girona will be the main excursion, but we will also explore an ancient Roman bridge and fort and the lake at Banyoles.

What is the currency in Spain?

The Euro is the common currency in Spain. You will only need Euros for buying souvenirs on our excursions from camp. You can exchange some money when we arrive at the airport.

Will we have email access at camp?

Not at camp, but during our times away from camp we can stop at an internet cafe.

What about a medical emergency?

Banyoles is about 15 minutes away and has a hospital. It is the closest medical care in case of emergency. Each person will be covered by a supplementary trip insurance that will cover emergency evacuation needs.

What if I want to use my airline miles/points or depart from the trip itinerary?

You are welcome to secure your own airfare and join our itinerary at the airport in Barcelona. You are also able to depart from us at the airport to do other travels in Europe. The price for your trip will be less the airfare portion which is about $1,000.

Check with your doctor about recommended immunizations before traveling abroad. A helpful website for learning about traveler's health is located here.
