Summer Jobs: Opportunities

Opportunities for Summer Staff

Pine Cove offers several opportunities during the school year and for staff who return for another summer of ministry.

Commission Camping (Returning Staff)

Four years ago, Pine Cove launched a missions program called Commission Camping, named after the Great Commission in Matthew 28. We want to go out and train others to share the Good News in the context of Christian camping. We realize that God is moving all over this world and we want to invest the experience that God has entrusted us with into leaders in Latin America. Using 15-member summer staff teams, we have just completed a 3 year partnership in Costa Rica, we are in the midst of a partnership in Panama, and we are looking to begin new relationships in Honduras and Argentina in the summer of 2009. To be eligible to participate in one of these 10 day trips, we require that you have experienced at least one summer at one of our camps in Texas. Team members must also commit to working a minimum of one half-summer in addition to the mission trip. Team members are responsible for financing and must be fully fundraised before leaving.

Leadership (Returning Staff)

Leadership positions include Directors for Work crew, Program, and Waterfront as well as Senior Counselors, Secretaries and many others. These positions are usually filled by returning staff members who have a proven ability to lead and are familiar with camp.

Young Guns & Baby Ruths (High School Seniors)

The Young Guns program for guys and Baby Ruths program for girls are 5 week, intense discipleship-based programs for students who have just completed high school and are preparing for their first year in college. The goal of the program is to train students in righteousness through creative learning experiences, teamwork, mentorship, teaching, lots of hard work during the day and involvement in the camp program in the evenings. Although this is considered a volunteer position, each Young Gun/Baby Ruth will be paid a small weekly stipend. Young Guns and Baby Ruths are not required to come to staff orientation but must be able to attend a full 5-week first half (May 31 - July 5) or second half (July 5 - August 8) session. The Forge (College Students & Graduates)

Pine Cove is looking to invest in the lives of young men and women who desire to be leaders in ministry. The Forge is a graduate-level training and discipleship program designed to develop the next generation of leaders in ministry. From September to April each year, the Forge will give a select number of students the chance to learn about leadership theory and practice, basic theology, worldviews, and ministry preparation as well as experience team building, solid biblical training, adventure opportunities and the life-on-life discipleship with Pine Cove staff and other leaders from throughout the country. National Partnerships (Returning Staff)

For the last several years Pine Cove has teamed up with an outside philanthropy organization and a political action group in order to impact the next generation of leaders. Pine Cove provides child and youth programs for these two influential organizations at various locations throughout the country. Approximately 40 staff will be asked to join one of these trips for a week in locations such as San Diego, Colorado Springs, or Washington D.C. All accommodations and travel expenses will be provided by Pine Cove.
