Summer Positions
Over 850 summer staff will serve at Pine Cove in 2009 in a variety of roles. Check out this list of the positions available. From instructing on the lake to serving in the health center, there is something for everyone!
Counselors (All Camps)
The heart of Pine Cove is in its counseling staff. The direct ministry to the campers is carried on primarily through counselors. By living with the campers, teaching activity classes and sharing experiences, the counselors give credibility to the Bible studies they teach. Counselors at the Towers, Outback, Ranch, Timbers, and Shores will stay in air conditioned cabins with their campers and be rotated from their regular counseling roles to work crew, typically one week per half summer. Woods, Bluffs, and Crier Creek Camp counselors will stay in air conditioned staff cabins and minister to the kids throughout the day. First year counselors are generally hired for one half of the summer. We accept half-summer and full-summer applications.
Boat Drivers* (Bluffs/Crier Creek/Outback/Ranch/Timbers/Shores)
Boat Drivers will be responsible to safely drive Nautique boats, maintain waterfront equipment and vehicles, and provide instruction for skiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, etc. Drivers must be at least 19 years of age by May 23, 2009 and have a clean driving record. Pine Cove requires that each ski instructor have nationally recognized (i.e. Red Cross, American Heart Association, BSA, etc.) CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard Certifications prior to Orientation. Pine Cove will reimburse for the cost of attaining certifications up to $150. Boat Drivers will participate in their camp’s programs in the evening as the schedule permits. Also, weekly 1-hour in-service training is required for all certified lifeguards.
Ropes Course Instructors* (All Camps)
The Ropes course instructors facilitate the use of the zip lines, climbing wall, pamper poles, and high ropes course. They are responsible for the safety and maintenance of the elements and equipment. Training or experience is required for these positions. The Woods and Bluffs ropes instructors will primarily teach ropes, while the other camps ropes instructors’ duties are in conjunction with other roles such as Counselors, Work Crew, etc.
Wranglers* (Bluffs/Crier Creek/Outback/Ranch/Towers/Woods)
Wranglers are involved in ministry to campers through a variety of horsemanship activities. They are responsible for the safety of campers, care of horses and facilities and participation in other camp activities. Wranglers will participate in their camp’s programs in the evening as the schedule permits.
Musicians (All Camps)
We hire a variety of positions for our worship teams including those who play drums, percussion, bass, guitar (acoustic and electric), keyboard, and vocalists. These positions are typically combined with other responsibilities as assigned by the Camp Directors.
Pool Lifeguards* (All Camps)
Pool lifeguards are responsible for opening day swim checks, daily activity classes, and other activities relating to the program as designated by the Camp Director. Current nationally recognized lifeguard certification is required. Also, weekly 1-hour in-service training is required for all certified lifeguards. The Woods and Bluffs lifeguards will primarily oversee the pool, while the other camps lifeguarding duties are in conjunction with other roles such as Counselors, Work Crew, etc.
Cooks/Chaos Coordinators (All Camps)
Summer staff cooks / chaos coordinators play an important role in the kitchen and dining hall. They assist our resident staff and should have some experience in food preparation and a desire to serve. Working closely with the staff, responsibilities include food preparation, washing dishes, setting and clearing tables, working in the camp store, and assisting the overall program through socializing with campers, theme night participation, and helping teach activity classes.
Videographers* (All Camps)
Videographers follow a production schedule, shoot footage, edit videos and duplicate DVDs. The videos they create are shown at camp and given to campers at the end of the week. Persons applying should have some experience in video production or photography. More about media jobs.
Photographers* (All Camps)
Photographers must have the ability to capture exciting and relevant pictures for use on our web page and for camper keepsakes. Cameras will be provided by Pine Cove. Photographers will be assigned other program responsibilities by the Camp Directors. More about media jobs.
Nannies (All Camps)
The camp nanny will have the privilege of serving the Directors’ families by working alongside the wives in providing the day to day, fun-filled care for their children during the summer. Nannies will also be widely involved in the camp program and have other work crew responsibilities.
Van Drivers (Ranch)
Van drivers are responsible to either deliver food to the camps throughout the day or make purchases in Tyler and deliver them to their proper places. They will also be involved in other programs and activities.
Retail Assistants* (All Camps)
Retail assistants manage staff and oversee the camp stores. Responsibilities include controlling inventory, restocking and merchandising products and snacks. Successful Retail Assistants find satisfaction in patient service of campers and having an eye for detail.
Health Center Staff (All Camps)
The Health Center staff offers a great opportunity for using and learning new practical medical skills. Responsibilities include assisting the Camp RN in providing quality health care to campers and staff and transporting sick/injured campers or staff to medical facilities. The Health Center staff members should have the love and patience required to work with kids and counselors.
