If you’ve ever wondered what a typical day at Pine Cove City looks like, imagine your church transforming into a high-energy, joy-filled summer camp before most people have even poured their first cup of coffee! What starts out as typical church parking lots and sanctuaries quickly becomes the campgrounds for the best summer ever. From team Alpine to team Legacy, there are 11 different City teams operating at the same time every summer. As a result, no camp day looks exactly the same for every single team… and that’s the fun of it!

Keep reading for a glimpse into a day that, if we had to describe it as an inanimate object, it’d be a confetti cannon: bursting with fun, vibrant color, a little bit of noise, and somehow even more joy and purpose than you thought possible!

  1. Rise, Shine & Give God the Glory!

The day starts early—usually between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. Staffers wake up, eat breakfast at their host homes, and hit the road to head to the church that’s hosting them for the week.

Between 7:00 and 7:15 a.m., everyone arrives at the church. The first 30–45 minutes are intentional and quiet. Staffers engage in personal quiet times with the Lord, sometimes gathering in shepherding or multiply groups for encouragement, prayer, or worship.

  1. Next up? Transformation Time

It’s time to turn church into camp! Inflatables go up. Silent discos are assembled. Water slides checked. Tents prepped. Every staffer has a role, and in about 20 minutes flat, hallways and parking lots look less like Sunday morning and more like the best week of summer.

  1. GAUNTLET!

When campers arrive around 8 a.m., they don’t just walk in—they are welcomed in through the Gauntlet. Staffers line the church entrance cheering, high-fiving, chanting names, and celebrating every single camper making it feel like a glimpse of heaven. Some staffers serve on the welcoming crew, some check campers in, and others stay back at their cabins (aka decked-out tents). The music is bumping and the smiles are contagious. Everyone is ready for what’s about to be an AWESOME (that’s AWESOME) day of camp in the City!

  1. Power Hour

Once everyone has made it to camp, it’s time for Power Hour—a high-energy worship experience packed with jumping, dancing, and praising. Power Hour sets the tone for the day by getting everyone’s blood flowing and hearts pumping for Jesus!

  1. Bible Study: The Heart of the Day

With hearts postured towards worship, we can lean into the most important part of the day: Bible Study! In co-ed groups led by their counselors, campers dive into Scripture, talk through real-life applications, and engage with big eternal truths about who God is and who He says they are. This is the heartbeat of camp—where fun meets faith!

  1. Activity Classes

One of the sweetest parts of City? Counselors stay with their campers all day long. Unlike overnight camp, the counselors actually run every activity class, meaning the growing discipleship relationships never pause—even when they’re jumping sky high on the bungee trampoline, ascending their way to the top of the climbing wall, or making a splash at the slip ‘n’ slide. There’s a plethora of seriously fun activities, and a typical day at City will have about four (let’s count ‘em!) different classes that are split to take place both before and after lunch. That’s a whole lot of silent discoing, sword fighting, and scavenger hunting if you ask us!

  1. Lunch! Don’t Give Me No Bread, No Bread!

And then there’s lunch, where all we want is that Jesus beat! Lunchtime is a sacred combination of refueling and full-on fun. Think dance breaks between bites, spontaneous cheers echoing across the room, counselors hyping up their cabins, and maybe even a “who can chug their Capri Sun fastest” showdown because our incredible counselors even know how to make staying hydrated fun!

  1. Who’s that!?

After enjoying a tasty lunch, it’s time for some of the craziest and silliest characters of the day to shine—it’s skit time! Superheroes, damsels in distress, villains, and even animals may take the stage. You never know who will show up or what kind of sticky situation they’ll find themselves in. The skit’s storyline continues throughout the week, usually building toward a meaningful redemption story. It’s a perfect opportunity to weave in more Gospel applications to even the silliest of characters and plots.

  1. C-L-U-B… Bring That Pine Cove CLUB to Me!

Then comes the grand finale. This is the portion of the day where birthdays will be celebrated with the iconic Birthday Rap, spirit sticks will be awarded, and the day will begin coming to a close with Club—more songs, more praise, and a time of teaching. The Gospel is once again clearly presented and followed up by a time of cabin reflection. The fast pace of the day slows. Campers share what stood out, what they learned, and how they want to grow. These moments are often a sweet chance for counselors to continue to hear about what’s been on their campers’ hearts.

  1. Closing Time

Before they know it, the clock strikes 4 p.m. and parents begin to arrive. Staffers chat with families, play games while campers wait, and make sure every child leaves feeling known, celebrated, and already excited for tomorrow.

Once campers are gone, the day isn’t over. Staffers tear down inflatables, clean up, and turn the church back into church. Then they gather for team meetings incorporating “done goods and do betters”—celebrating wins, shouting each other out, and sharpening one another for the next day.

  1. After Hours

Many of the evenings are spent hanging out and having fun with the host parents and their children. City staffers continually rave about the blessing it is to be hosted by a family who attends the host church each week, experiencing fun and discipleship within a Christian home away from home. Some nights, the team will go out into whatever city they’re in and hang out together, or there will be a “Topic Night,” featuring teaching focused on a particular subject.

On Thursday nights, there is “Thursday Night Celebration,” where the City staff, host families, and church staff gather at the church or in a family’s home to eat together and reflect on or share the cool things God did at camp that week, telling encouraging stories of life transformation for campers! It’s a truly amazing, uplifting, and special time for everyone involved.

Eventually, it’s time for TAPS and lights are out, because soon enough, that early morning alarm will go off, and it’ll be time for another great day at Pine Cove City!

On paper, a day at Pine Cove City looks full… because it is. But beneath the inflatables, dance breaks, cheers, and skits lies something deeper. Every activity, every transition, every silly moment carries eternal purpose, all with the hope of God being ultimately glorified. We rejoice that the host churches aren’t the only things being transformed—but also the lives and hearts of campers, summer staffers, and their families, as they learn more about God and grow in love for Him each and every day.
