Lord, You’re with me either way it goes

Should I rise or should I fall?

Even so, Lord, Your mercy is an even flow

You’re too good to let me go”

Hello Pine Cove! This is Queen Juice, Shores Associate Director! A question the Lord has been asking me a lot lately is, “Do you trust me?”

If someone were to ask most believers, “Do you trust the Lord?”, we would say “Yes!” without hesitation. But God has been gently challenging me on that question, “Do you trust me?”

Do you trust me when things get hard?

Do you trust me in the highs, lows, and in betweens?

Do you trust Him?

Or maybe a better question for us today is: Where is your trust placed?

In Psalm 62, David prays in the middle of his hardship and worships God. He reminds his soul (and us) that God is worthy of our trust!

Let’s dive in a little…

Read Psalm 62:5-8

We are smack in the middle of Psalm 62. In verse 5, David shifts from a statement of truth to a command, speaking directly to his soul: “O my soul, wait!”

This repeated command emphasizes the truth that we can and should place our trust in God because He is our only true hope… because our hope rests in God alone, we can trust him.

That hope is not groundless optimism; it is anchored in the specific attributes of God.

He is our salvation.

He is our rock and fortress.

He is our refuge.

When we call Him our ‘refuge,’ we are leaning into a Hebrew word that implies a literal physical shelter—a stronghold of hope and trust.

That kind of security changes everything. It unlocks the freedom of Psalm 62:8. Because we are safe, we can “pour out our hearts” before Him. He is big enough to handle our honesty, and strong enough to keep us safe. He is worthy of our trust!

Reflection Questions :

  1. Where do you place your trust?
  2. Where do you find your hope, rock, and refuge while waiting?
  3. Reflect on your fortress—your rock—and what you stand on. How does this make you feel
  4. Imagine your refuge in God. (find a place, the person of Jesus, whatever… but imagine your refuge.) And pray:
    • Pour out your heart to Him. Confess.
    • Simply be with Him.
    • Remind yourself of the truths in Psalm 62 (He is our rock, refuge, fortress, etc.).
