Hey Pine Cove! It’s Flee here—Timbers Women’s Director!
Recently, the Lord has been teaching me how to listen to and hear His voice!
Picture this! You’re in a crowded room and you can’t find anyone you recognize. You might feel nervous but then you hear the voice of one of your best friends and immediately you feel relief! We know the voices of those we spend the most time with.
How can we know the voice of the Lord? Prayer is how we talk to God, but we need to learn how to hear His voice back to us.
Spend some time reading John 10:27-28.
“My sheep hear my voice.” Jesus often describes the relationship between Him and His children (us) like a shepherd and His sheep. As sheep spend time following and being led by their shepherd, they learn the shepherd’s voice. There is ownership on both sides. Our Shepherd, Jesus, knows His people. He knows His sheep, but we also need to know Jesus’ voice.
But how?
This is going to sound simple, but you have to spend time with Him and talk to Him! Remember, you know the voices of those you spend the most time with. A sheep is constantly with their shepherd. We don’t know where to go without the Shepherd. When we know our Shepherd, we can trust and follow Him with confidence. He is leading us to spend forever with Him!
Practically, it is helpful for me to spend time sitting, listening, and quieting my mind before I read my Bible. Start with just five minutes of sitting and listening to the Lord. And then read His words written out to us in scripture and live that out!
Reflection Questions:
Whose voice are you drawn to follow the most?
What are practical ways you can learn the voice of your true Shepherd?
