I open up my heart to you

So do what only you can

Jesus, have your way in me now

Hey Pine Cove! This is Bendy, the Timbers Men’s Director!

I don’t know about you, but I definitely get nervous when I have to do something one-on-one with someone I don’t know that well. I have to work up a lot of confidence (and icebreaker questions) and just pray that there won’t be any awkward silence.

Compare that feeling to hanging out with someone who really knows you. Maybe it’s your best friend, a brother or sister, maybe Mom or Dad. Living life in close relationship with people you know and love brings us so much joy!

Let’s take a look at Revelation 3:20:

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”

Can we just take a step back and think about how cool this is? Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World, is knocking on the door of your heart because He wants to sit down and eat with you. How crazy!

Sitting with someone to have a meal is a pretty personal thing because there’s nowhere to go—your full attention and devotion is on the person in front of you. Jesus desires to have this intimate form of fellowship with you! He knows you fully (weaknesses and all) and is eager to come into your heart to dine with you as a friend.

Jesus is standing at the door, calling out, but won’t force His way in. You must be the one to open your heart in order to commune with the Lord of the Universe. He’s knocking right now. Will you open the door?

Reflection Questions:

  1. What are some fears you have with opening the door of your heart to Jesus?
  2. What emotions arise when you reflect on the fact that Jesus is eager to be invited in?
