Time To Unplug

The start of a new semester brings out a lot: excitement, new clothes, stuffed backpacks, 543 papers for parents to sign off on every night, sports practices, new music lessons, homework assignments, and, more than likely, stress.

Most of what comes with a new semester is fun and good, but all those “fun and good” things stacked on top of each other can be a LOT. It doesn’t take long into a semester to start counting down the days till the next holiday, and it can be tough to get intentional time in with your family between racing from one drop-off to the next.

In times like these, it’s easy to long wistfully for the carefree days of summer (or maybe what you wish your summer was like): kids playing in the pool for hours with nowhere to be next, days at the lake with the family, and spending entire afternoons completely unplugged.

This will come as no surprise, but those of us who work in camp ministry get it. We know what it’s like to feel crazy busy, but we also know what it’s like to unplug, get out in God’s creation, and have some serious fun with the people we love most. This is exactly why we believe in camp ministry! God can really move in our hearts when we remove ourselves from the hectic everyday schedules.

Maybe unplugging for you looks like going for a long walk with the kids, or keeping all phones in a certain spot when everyone’s home. Maybe it’s going to the park for the afternoon, and saying no to something else.

Or, maybe a whole weekend away is exactly what you and your kids need. That “magic” of summer camp doesn’t just exist in the summer — Pine Cove has weekend conferences spread throughout the year, designed for exactly this reason. We even have conferences designed just to focus on a parent/child relationship. Come unplug, rest, and recharge!
