Editor’s Note

Want to see how the finished product turned out? We’ve got completed construction photos here!

The Azalea cabins have been a fixture at the Woods since 1968. We love them, and lots of campers love them. People tell us all the time about how they have “stayed in Azalea 202 every summer from the time their kids were babies ‘til they became counselors,” and that is definitely a lot of history in one cabin!

We love nostalgia as much as the next person, but do you know what else we love? Two bedrooms. (And all the moms said Amen.)

As mentioned above, these cabins have seen generations of campers come through them, which means they were in need of some updates. Instead of doing small facelifts, here’s the plan: one of the original Azalea buildings is being completely renovated to create bigger and more functional spaces for families. The old 20 cabins will be converted into 10 family suites, with 2 bedrooms (a room for parents and a bunk room for kids) and 2 bathrooms.

Another Azalea building of 10 family suites will be built where the old Cove Kids building was. The old Woods office will be renovated into the new Cove Kids building! We really love those cute Cove kiddos, so we are excited to give them a brand new space of their own next summer. Also, another meeting room will be added in a location yet to be determined.

We know it’s a big change for Woods campers and staff, but we definitely think the changes will be worth it! After two summers in the new dining hall, we haven’t really missed climbing over each other just to be able to go downstairs to a bathroom. We think we’ll feel the same about these cabins!

It has been fun watching the progress of all this construction happening so far this fall, and we can’t wait to see the finished products. These new Azalea cabins will have campers in them next summer!
