Groundhog Day—Camp Edition!

At Pine Cove, we love animals and we’re seriously fun! Put those things together and you’ve got Groundhog Day! Do you find yourself googling, “What is Groundhog Day?” every year on February 2nd? Considering they’re one of the only animals with a national holiday, and because they have a universally known saying of “How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood,” we thought today (yes today!) would be the best time to give you the inside scoop. 

To save you from a google search: Groundhog Day is a silly tradition that’s been around for hundreds of years! Although there are multiple crazily named famous groundhogs, Punxsutawney Phil is the most popular (what a great potential camp name!). If he comes out of his burrow and sees his shadow, the tradition is that there will be six more weeks of winter. If he comes out and doesn’t see his shadow, then spring is right around the corner! Well… maybe. Phil’s predictions have only been correct 40% of the time. 

But have no fear! We’ve compiled some seriously fun Pine Cove predictions that are 100% correct, 100% of the time!

If a counselor wakes up and sees that at least two campers are already awake, then that cabin is destined to win 2nd place for the Spirit Stick at flag!

If a camper consumes Dibs and an entire can of Peace Tea during free time, they will be blobbed higher than anyone else at the pool that day!

If at lunch a camper refills all of their cabin mates’ water cups, then during dinner they WILL be scraperhead!

If at least half of the camp wears eye black on their face, campers WILL win Espionage, Commando, or whichever camo night game they’re playing!

A camper who sprays the staff with water during the gauntlet is sure to get extra Nerds in their slushie!

The last camper in the gym for Club will end up being first in line for the camp store the next day!

Whichever camper goes off the zipline last at campers choice will be the first to discover their counselor’s real name!

Thankfully we don’t need a groundhog to predict the future when we serve a God who is outside of time. But Groundhog Day still is pretty seriously-fun in our opinion!
