“King of Glory, You pursue my anxious heart”
Hey Pine Cove! This is Uno, Springs Pro Associate Director.
Have you ever wanted to ask someone on a date, but didn’t, because you were sure there was no way they would want to go out with you?
No, this devo isn’t about dating. I ask that question because you would never ask someone to spend time with you if you thought they didn’t like you.
In the same way, why would you want to spend time with God if you believe He doesn’t want to spend time with you?
Let’s look at John 15:4-5:
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
The word “abide” means to stay or to remain.
God makes it pretty clear what He wants us to do: abide.
Where? In Him.
And what does He promise to do? Abide in us.
We see that God wants to be with us, and He wants us to remain in Him. God’s desire isn’t just that you would be a “good” Christian, doing the right things.
Jesus deeply desires our presence with Him—that we would know and experience the living God here and now (John 17:3).
Why does God want us to be with Him? Because He delights in us! (Psalm 18:19)
Abiding—staying or remaining—starts with a right view of God. When we understand the King of the universe delights in us, it changes everything!
