Bible Study Theme: The High Fives

by Brett Brewer

Campers at bible study

At Camp in the City this summer, we are excited to introduce campers to a group of friends called The High Fives. Each of these friends will help us understand a different aspect of who God is, and they will give us a real-life example of what it means to be like Jesus and demonstrate His character.

Each of us was created with a unique identity and one that reflects the God who made us in His image! Our elementary campers may think they know themselves pretty well, but what we really want them to understand is that there is someone greater worth knowing intimately – and He knows them already!

So get ready to hear about these friends as we highlight the characteristics that God built into each of their hearts.

Camp in the City Bible Study

ART

On Monday we will meet Art, who is immensely creative. Art’s talent is displayed in the work of his hands. He takes the time to patiently craft masterpieces that remind us we are created in God’s image for good purposes. His precision is a reflection of the care that God took in creating this world and in creating us. Art is quick to point out that God made everything to bring Himself glory!

LUCY

Lucy exemplifies a love that is action-oriented and a God who fervently cares for His own. She is a deep well of warm affection who treats everyone like it’s their birthday! She is passionate about celebrating because everyone is worth it! Lucy understands that God’s unconditional love helps us love others.

TOBY

The Bible tells us that we can be a part of God’s family – that we can be His sons and daughters. The love of a father is safe, and Toby demonstrates for others the gentle character of a God who protects and provides. When we are part of God’s family, we enjoy the benefits of being his kids. Toby is rich in mercy, like our God who is slow to anger and who abounds in love.

BROCK

Don’t let the laid-back attitude fool you… Brock is serious about how great God is. He reminds us that we get to serve a God who is Holy and who and wants us to follow in His footsteps. Brock’s humility is contagious. Even though he has a lot of reasons to think of himself as the coolest kid in school, Brock always gives the glory to God. His response to God’s holiness is submission and repentance.

PENNY

You can’t meet a more faithful friend than Penny! She is a wonderful illustration of the compassion God shows us. Penny fully trusts that God is dedicated to us. He will never leave us, no matter what. We can put our faith in God’s character.

Each day, when we say “Give me five!” we will review:

1. Who did we meet?
2. How did God make them unique?
3. What did we learn about God’s character?
4. What does that have to do with us?
5. What does God’s word say about this?

We will be memorizing Colossians 3:12 as a way to sum up what we are learning.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
