Camp in the City at WoodsEdge

Camp in the City is Pine Cove’s traveling day camp that currently partners with 68 churches in seven states. One of those churches is WoodsEdge Community Church based in Spring, Texas, just outside of The Woodlands. This partnership arose from the fact that the mission of WoodsEdge is aligned with our mission: to be used by God to transform the lives of people for His purposes and His glory.

In June of this past summer, we brought 32 of our incredible summer staffers to run a high-energy day camp for 2nd-5th grade for kids in the community. We used this partnership as an opportunity to provide a fun, gospel-sharing week at the church in the hopes that kids and families would be drawn to WoodsEdge.

Seeing God at Work

From our parents survey after the week, we learned there were six kids who said they trusted Jesus, another nine who re-emphasized a commitment to follow Jesus, and 14 who spoke of choosing to read the Bible more frequently. On top of that, we had a parent who chose to trust Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior because of what their child learned from camp!

That’s incredible! We love it!

During our time at WoodsEdge, a few characteristics stood out to us about the heartbeat of the church:

1. They are passionate about people hearing and understanding the word of God.
2. They truly believe in the power of prayer.
3. They promote a culture where community is achieved by living life alongside each other.

One of our summer staffers, Lauren ‘Lil Ducky’ Kelly from Ohio, described it this way:

“There was a certain sense of unbounded freedom and community at WoodsEdge. I knew that they were people who honestly sought the heart of God and wanted to do His will no matter the cost. They were willing to not only invite the community in, but love them like Jesus loves them. His name was lifted lifted up above any worship leader, pastor, or person.”

WoodsEdge supported us immensely during our partnership with them. Rhonda Dohner, Elementary Pastor at WoodsEdge, wrote this to our staff at the end of the week:

“Our children were so excited each day, to come to camp and experience, not just learn, about the love of their father.   What a shining example, each one of you are, for Him!”

We at Pine Cove believe in what the Lord is doing through WoodsEdge and are grateful to be in partnership with them. We’re looking forward to another great camp at WoodsEdge next summer — we’ll be there June 23-27.
